What does the result of the Marriage Equality Postal Survey mean for you as a Mindful Employer?
At times of significant social change, people will experience a wide range of different emotions. There is elation for some, disappointment and frustration for others. The strength of these reactions will vary, but for some, the result will have triggered some very powerful emotions. Whatever the experience, as we now move into the Parliamentary process, the discussions and reverberations, will continue.
During this time, it is important that managers, people leaders and colleagues feel supported and equipped with information should a staff member need assistance.
If your Organisation has an Employee Assistance Program now would be a great time to remind your staff how to access the program, and of course, that your door is open for a chat too.
Additionally, it might be a good time to check that you have a list of relevant mental health support services handy, perhaps on the office intranet or even up on the lunch room noticeboard.
Remember, you don’t need to be a counsellor or mental health expert to provide support to your staff and each other. Your most powerful support tool is your willingness to listen, without judgment and without pressure to ‘fix’ anything.
